Dry Hair Vs Damaged Hair
Updated: Jan 8, 2021
As stylists we are often asked about dry hair vs damaged hair. Many clients use these terms interchangeably, however they are different problems requiring different solutions. Here are a few ways to tell the difference:
To determine if your hair lacks moisture, consider if the following symptoms apply:
No flexibility – Flexible hair stretches without snapping.
Coarse, rough texture – If your hair has a straw like feel, it’s dry.
Split ends – These are indicated by single strands of hair peeling away from themselves, or by tiny white balls on the ends of strands.
Dullness – Moisturized hair is shiny and bouncy.
Breakage – If your hair breaks off halfway down when pulled on, it’s lacking adequate moisture and protein.
Solutions for dry hair:
Kerasilk Color Mask- This can be done in the salon or at home. Tamanu Oil is the secret ingredient, along with Keratin and silk protein leaves hair shiny & moisturized
Shampoo & Conditioner- We suggest Kerasilk Color Shampoo & Conditioner, or KMS Moist Repair Shampoo & Conditioner
Leave in Treatments- KMS Moist Repair Leave In or Kerasilk Color Protective Blow Dry Spray
DevaCurl Melt Into Moisture- For all of you curly haired clients this mask is perfect! You can even sleep with it in to get the maximum benefit.
Signs Of Damaged Hair If your hair is damaged, you’ll notice some or all of these:
Brittleness – This results from heat styling.
Over processed ends- If hair has been repeatedly lightened the ends can feel mushy when wet, and break when dry.
Shedding – Hair breaking off during styling signals damage.
Split ends – Split ends can be found in both dry and damaged hair.
Repetitive styling – If you dye, straighten, blow dry, or curl your hair regularly, it’s most likely damaged.
Solutions for damaged hair:
Olaplex- Olaplex is a bond rebuilder that can be used in color formulas, done as an in salon treatment, and maintained at home in a take home treatment.
Kerasilk Reconstruct Line- This entire line is made to strengthen weak and damaged hair from the inside out. It uses Hyaloveil to keep moisture in and Keratin and silk protein to repair the damage.
